Renovation and rehabilitation works are underway on two railway sites in the south of the country, Văleni segment and Prut-2 station. They were evaluated yesterday by the management of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR).
Deputy Prime Minister, MIDR head Vladimir Bolea together with State Secretary for Transport Mircea Păscăluță checked the progress on the two key segments of the railway infrastructure in the south of the country: the railway segment at km 74, in the area of the village of Văleni and the construction site of the Prut-2 railway station in Cantemir.
At Văleni site, consolidation works of the embankment are underway.
At Prut-2 railway station, officials evaluated the progress of modernization works for reopening the railway traffic on the Cantemir–Fălciu line. Currently, preparations are being made for installing railway lines, leveling station surfaces for road transport access, and preparing areas for goods storage.
“This railway segment connects the south of the Republic of Moldova with the Romanian railway infrastructure, having enormous potential in diversifying logistics routes and increasing the competitiveness of freight railway transport from the Republic of Moldova to the European Union,” estimated Bolea.
The state has taken on the responsibility of modernizing the railways. Currently, major projects funded by European funds are underway, aimed at rehabilitating the lines from Tighina to Giurgiulești and from Ocnița to Căinari. Also, rehabilitating the railway bridge at Fălciu-Cantemir and the segment at Văleni will allow increased freight transit, increased train speed, and improved network safety and attractiveness.
