Road Fund 2026: In addition to road maintenance and repair, funds earmarked for equipping quality control laboratory
For the maintenance and repair of national public roads, with a total length of 5,993 km, the amount of 1.82 billion lei has been allocated for 2026. The program for allocating the resources of the Road Fund for this year was approved today by the Government.
The priorities of the Program are aimed at keeping national roads in good traffic condition through regular maintenance interventions, preventing pavement degradation, and increasing safety for all road users. The road sections that require maintenance work were identified following an assessment of the road network, in order to ensure the most efficient allocation of the available funds.
“This is a decision about what the safety of our people looks like, about how quickly an ambulance arrives, about how safely a child gets to school, and about how correctly we spend every public leu. It will be crucial to spend with great rigor and responsibility every leu invested in infrastructure, and where this is not justified, we will intervene strictly,” Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea said.
Thus, for the maintenance of national public roads in summer, winter, as well as for routine maintenance, around 672.68 million lei are planned. The works also include the installation of road signs and guardrails, the construction and repair of sidewalks and the construction of parking areas.
At the same time, 423 million lei are allocated for the modernization of around 285 km of regional roads, and for the capital repair of roads and engineering structures, a total of 26 facilities, resources amounting to over 397 million lei are directed.
In addition to the funds for repair and maintenance of the national public road network, the Road Fund will finance the establishment and equipping of a testing laboratory within National Road Administration, which will carry out control of construction materials and the quality of road repair works. The laboratory will also conduct research and development activities and draft technical standards for new materials and technologies in the road sector.
Furthermore, the production base of the units that perform road maintenance works – Roads company – will be developed through the purchase of specialized machinery and equipment.
