Moldova to receive about 6.6 million lei to support refugees from Ukraine
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will provide the Republic of Moldova with a non-reimbursable funding of 300,000 Swiss francs (about 6.6 million lei) to support temporary accommodation centers for refugees from Ukraine. The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy today approved the consultative opinion on the signing of the grant agreement between the IFRC and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
The funds will be used to cover part of the operational expenses of the 18 temporary accommodation centers active on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, planned for 2026. These include personnel costs, utilities, goods and services, consumables and maintenance materials, as well as other costs necessary to ensure accommodation and protection conditions for beneficiaries.
The MMPS estimates that the financial support will help ensure adequate living and protection conditions for approximately 1,000 vulnerable beneficiaries.
The agreement will enter into force on the date of signing and will remain valid until the end of 2026. It continues the cooperation between the IFRC and the Republic of Moldova in financing temporary accommodation centers for refugees, which began in 2023. During this period, the IFRC has provided grants totaling 2.5 million Swiss francs.
IFRC is an international organization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. It coordinates the largest humanitarian network in the world, made up of 191 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and over 17 million volunteers.
