Head of State participated in launch of Chisinau-Strășeni-Călărași main aqueduct construction works
President Maia Sandu participated on June 19 in the launch of the construction works of Chisinau – Strășeni – Călărași main aqueduct, an important project in the effort to ensure access to quality water for all families in the Republic of Moldova.
“As the climate changes and drought becomes more frequent, water is becoming an increasingly valuable resource. For decades, investments in water networks have been modest, and today only 65% of the country's localities have tap water. In the last four years, we have accelerated efforts - we have built about 1000 kilometers of aqueducts in all districts. We aim to ensure access to quality water in all localities by 2030,” said the head of state.
The aqueduct will initially have a length of about 53 kilometers and will provide drinking water to over 35,000 residents of Strășeni municipality and Călărași town. Subsequently, with the development of the related infrastructure through the construction of distribution networks, the aqueduct will also supply water to other localities in the two districts.
The construction works are planned for the next two years and will cost 45 million euros, of which 40 million euros have been provided through a grant from the German Government, and 5 million represents the contribution of the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The President thanked the German Government for the generous support, emphasizing that the modernization of our country would not have been possible without strong partnerships with democratic countries.
