European Commissioner holds talks with Prime Minister
Progress made in implementing the reforms required for the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, with a focus on equality and respect for rights, was analyzed during a meeting between Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, who is visiting the Republic of Moldova.
According to the EU Delegation to Chisinau, the discussions focused on equality and respect for rights—from combating violence against women and the inclusion of Roma people to protecting minority rights and supporting people with disabilities in the transition to independent living.
“A society in which every person is respected, protected and given equal opportunities is not only fairer, but also more prosperous,” the cited source emphasized.
Hadja Lahbib is paying first official visit to the Republic of Moldova today. The programme began with a meeting with President Maia Sandu, followed by the European official’s visit to the Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) Moldova, which held a practical demonstration in her presence using equipment provided with the support of the European Union.
In addition, the Commissioner will visit a refugee accommodation center and La Strada organization. The discussions will focus on support for victims of sexual violence and the needs of vulnerable refugees.
