Border control at three Moldovan-Ukrainian crossing points to be temporarily organized solely on territory of Moldova

The control activities at the Giurgiulesti–Reni, Briceni–Rossosani and Criva–Mamaliga border crossing points will be temporarily adjusted amid developments in the security situation near the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. The measure will take effect on September 12, 2026, at 08:00, and will be applied for a period of 90 days.

Presently, joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control is in place at the three crossing points, with employees of Moldova’s Border Police and Customs Service carrying out control activities on Ukrainian territory.

According to the authorities, for security reasons, starting from September 12, the personnel of Moldova’s control authorities will return to national territory and operate within the existing infrastructure of Moldova.

“The change will not affect the functionality of the crossing points or cross-border movement of people and vehicles. Control procedures will continue to be carried out, with only the location where Moldovan personnel will temporarily perform their duties being changed. The measure is temporary and preventive and is being implemented in the context of security risks triggered by air attacks made by the Russian Federation against infrastructure in Ukraine, including near the border with Moldova,” the Border Police explain.

The Border Police and Customs Service say that they will ensure the continuity of control procedures and the functionality of the three crossing points, without interrupting the cross-border traffic.
