VIDEO // President sets priorities for 2026: European integration our safety anchor in face of uncertain future
President Maia Sandu has set the priorities for 2026, emphasizing the need to continue reforms in order to advance on the path of European integration. The head of state said that European integration represents a safety anchor for the Republic of Moldova in an uncertain regional context.
At the same time, Maia Sandu highlighted that one of the most important priorities remains children’s health, as they are often exposed to risks in the online environment. The President stressed the importance of strengthening state institutions so that they become more efficient, more respectful toward citizens, and more responsible in managing public money.
In her speech, the head of state urged citizens to remain united and to be guided in life by genuine values such as decency, diligence, honesty and care for others. Maia Sandu underlined that sustainable welfare can only be built through honest work, civic responsibility and mutual respect.
President Maia Sandu made the statements at a press conference at the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.
Maia Sandu: “We must push forward European integration with even greater determination. European integration is our safety anchor in the face of an uncertain future. The entire political class must understand that any deviation from this path endangers our freedom, peace, and welfare. We must strengthen our state from within; institutions must become more efficient, more respectful toward people, more prudent with public money.
But most importantly, regardless of what decisions are made by those who are now great and powerful, all of us must remain human. We must have the courage not to give up our values. On the contrary, we must always be guided by the values of our people: decency, diligence, honesty, and care for our fellow human beings. Each of us matters in this effort.
We must do our job every day in our workplace, because only through honest work can lasting welfare be built. We must pay our taxes and contributions so that we can build schools for our children and pay pensions for our grandparents. We must show respect to one another and not turn away from the needs of those around us, not consume more than we need, save energy, and avoid any kind of waste.
We must take care of our health and protect our waters and forests, focus on what truly matters, on what is lasting, on what we leave behind. Let us not forget that our forebears also went through difficult times and stood firm with dignity, with their heads held high. With the same dignity, with the same moral compass, if you will, we move forward as well. Let us keep our trust without deluding ourselves, and be vigilant without living in fear.”
At the end of the statements, the head of state will answer journalists’ questions. The interactive discussion is scheduled to last until 1:00 p.m..
