Clearer rules for forest management, planning of cleaning: Moldovan government approves measures for regeneration, conservation, ecological reconstruction
Forests of Moldova will be cared for and managed more responsibly, and cleaning works will be carried out, so that young forests can develop healthily. The government has approved clear rules for forests’ management for the period 2026–2030, which provide for planned works and responsible interventions to ensure their regeneration, conservation and ecological reconstruction.
"This is an investment in the health of forests. We will help forests grow and will intervene with cleaning works in old, dry or disease-affected forests, so that these areas can gradually regenerate through the emergence or planting of young trees," said Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder.
The project stipulates that the volumes of timber harvested from forests are determined taking into account forests’ management plans, as well as studies and research in the field. Each year, in degraded, dry or disease-affected forests’ areas, about 344 thousand cubic meters of timber will be harvested, a considerable part of which will be supplied to the population, hospitals, kindergartens and schools for heating during the cold season.
Gradually, forest areas will be regenerated, including through the planting of young trees adapted to current climatic conditions.
Proper planning of forest cleaning will contribute to nature protection, ensuring cleaner air and preserving forests for future generations. State-owned forests will become more resilient and safer for the environment and communities.
