European Parliament members to support Moldovan lawmakers in transposing EU legislation

European Parliament members will provide support to Moldovan MPs in transposing European legislation and preparing the Republic of Moldova for EU accession. MEP Siegfried Mureșan made the statement today, following a meeting of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the Republic of Moldova.

The official emphasized that the European Parliament directly supports the legislature in Chișinău across all negotiation clusters.

“Today I chaired the meeting of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the Republic of Moldova, where we decided to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the Parliament in Chișinău. We agreed that, for each negotiation cluster on accession to the European Union, there will be one or more responsible Members of the European Parliament, with experience in the field, who will work directly with their counterparts in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, which has set up a similar mechanism. The goal is to provide faster and more concrete support for the transposition of European legislation and for preparing accession,” stated Siegfried Mureșan.

The working mechanism was agreed with Marcel Spătari, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration.

“As co-chairs of the EU–Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, we will coordinate the ‘Competitiveness and inclusive growth’ cluster. The other clusters are: Fundamental values, Internal market, Green agenda and sustainable connectivity, Resources, agriculture and cohesion, External relations,” Mureșan said.

On 15 December 2025, the Republic of Moldova received the green light from the 27 EU member states to start technical discussions on the first chapters of the accession negotiations. The decision of the EU Council marked Chișinău’s transition to a new stage in the European integration process, following the completion of the screening phase – the analysis of the compatibility of national legislation with the EU acquis.
