Moldovan, American officials approach regional security, energy interconnection

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi and U.S. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Christopher Landau have discussed regional security and energy interconnection in Washington.

At the beginning of the meeting, Popșoi congratulated Christopher Landau on appointment and wished him success in the mandate.

“I thanked the U.S. Department of State for the approval to open the two Consulates General of the Republic of Moldova in Sacramento and Chicago. I also expressed gratitude for the continued support offered by the U.S. to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova over the years,” said Popșoi.

The officials also discussed regional security, prioritization of strategic energy interconnection projects, strengthening democratic institutions, attracting American investments and Moldova's progress in European integration.

Popșoi invited Landau and U.S. chief diplomat Marco Rubio to visit the Republic of Moldova.

Popșoi is on a working visit to the U.S. on 29 March - 6 April. On 29 March the minister participated in the official opening ceremony of the Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in Sacramento. On the same day, in Chicago, the second Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in the U.S. was opened.
