Prime Minister Dorin Recean met today citizens of Roscani village, one of the localities affected by African swine fever. Representatives of local authorities and the National Public Health Agency participated in the meeting too.

The discussions focused on the management of the African swine fever outbreak, identified in the village last month. Presently, it has been practically eliminated. The slaughter of the sick pigs has ended and disinfection of all surfaces is taking place at the affected farm.

PM Dorin Recean noted that the outbreak’s elimination and animal slaughter had been conducted quickly, adhering to all sanitary-veterinary standards. “State institutions have made sure that all necessary burial procedures were observed, including preventing these wastes from reaching underground waters and spreading into the soil. There is no danger to the either underground waters, or the citizens' health, now or in the long run,” the prime minister stated.

As for the air quality in the surrounding areas, it was mentioned that the recorded values were within the safety norms. At the same time, the PM assured that all competent institutions were involved in minimizing the problem of the farm's barn smell, which has been affecting villagers for years.

“Swine fever is a virus that has affected other states in the region as well. Unfortunately, it can happen, and we need to be prepared and learn how to respond promptly,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean. Residents were encouraged to report any suspicions, given that there are several animal diseases spread regionally, such as foot-and-mouth disease.

The sides also discussed the settlement's development, emphasizing that the Budget +PLUS, approved today by the government, includes investments in roads and local infrastructure.

The village of Roscani has about 2,500 residents. Within the European Village 1 and European Village Express projects, the water supply network was rehabilitated and street lighting was extended. Through the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Environment Development, the village's health center was modernized. Also, as part of the European Village 2 project, the building of the community centre is set to be reconstructed.
