Moldovan parliament Intervenes to clarify enforcement of parole in life imprisonment cases
The MPs today voted a draft law aimed at clarifying the enforcement of Articles 91 and 92 of the Criminal Code in the context of amnesty. According to the new interpretation, individuals whose sentences have been commuted from life imprisonment to prison will no longer be eligible for early parole.
The proposed amendments aim to eliminate the possibility for the same person to benefit from both sentence commutation and early parole. The draft law specifies that this clarification will also apply to those who have already been released on parole.
Also, at the today's plenary meeting, the lawmakers voted, in the first reading, a draft law that aims to ensure the correct and efficient enforcement of the provisions of the Criminal Code, the Law on Amnesty related to the 30th anniversary of Moldova's independence, and the Criminal Procedure Code.
