
Moldovan, US officials approach security situation in region
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi and Senior Director for Europe and Eurasia at the National Security Council Andrew Peek have discussed the security situation in the region, including Trump administration's vision for a ceasefire in Ukraine and lasting peace.
Popșoi spoke about developments in the Transnistrian region, as well as Chisinau authorities' efforts to strengthen the security and stability of the Republic of Moldova. He also highlighted the progress made in energy diversification and increasing the country's resilience, key aspects of Moldova's European path.
“We also discussed the upcoming parliamentary elections, and Andrew Peek praised the organisation of the presidential elections and the constitutional referendum, expressing confidence that the parliamentary elections will also be held according to best practices. We reaffirmed Moldova's strong commitment to remain a reliable partner of the U.S. in the region,” Popșoi said.
Popșoi is on a working visit to the USA on 29 March - 6 April. On 29 March he participated in the official inauguration ceremony of the Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Sacramento. On the same day, in Chicago, the opening of the second Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in the USA took place.
