Decree on creation of agricultural chambers published in Official Journal of Moldova
Agricultural chambers will be set up in the Republic of Moldova, representing the interests of farmers. The promulgation decree and the law have been published in the Official Journal and will come into force on 1 January 2026.
According to the document, agricultural chambers are organizations through which dialogue between farmers and public authorities with agricultural competencies will be institutionalized, as well as among other central and local public administration authorities within their fields of competence. At the same time, agricultural chambers will offer farmers access to necessary resources and information, including training and funding programs, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences among members.
Agricultural chambers will be established at two levels: ten regional agricultural chambers and the National Agricultural Chamber. Membership in the agricultural chamber can be obtained by agricultural producers who own, possess and use at least two hectares of agricultural land; or at least one hectare of land occupied by perennial crops or open-field vegetables; or at least 0.1 hectares of vegetables on protected land; or a number of animals, for non-professional farms, greater than that provided by the veterinary sanitary activity law. A farmer can only be a member of one regional agricultural chamber.
The activity of the agricultural chambers will be funded from membership fees, from consultancy and/or assistance services provided for a fee, from subsidies granted from the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development; from donations or sponsorships, and from other legal sources. The model of organizing agricultural chambers in Moldova will be hybrid. On one hand, the state, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, will facilitate the process of creating and institutionalizing regional agricultural chambers, while, on the other hand, agricultural chambers will have full autonomy in their activities.
