
Parliament to ratify Agreement on EU support package
The Parliament is about to ratify the Implementation Agreement for the support granted by the European Union within the Reform and Growth Mechanism for the Republic of Moldova. The standing bureau approved the supplement to the agenda of the Parliament's plenary sessions from May 22-30, the Parliament's Press Service has reported.
The Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova provides financial support amounting to 1.9 billion lei, the largest ever granted by the EU to Moldova since independence. The funds are allocated to accelerate reforms and bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union. The Implementation Agreement of the EU Growth Plan for Moldova was signed on May 9 in Chișinău by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
Grant Agreements with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the implementation of the project Optimization of the centralized heat supply system in Chișinău will also be ratified.
Projects Examined in the First Reading
In the first reading, MPs will examine draft laws related to the organization and functioning of public institutions. The legislative initiative regulates the conditions for the establishment, reorganization, operation, and dissolution of public institutions, including their tasks and responsibilities. Also, in the first reading, legislative initiatives to strengthen measures for protecting investments in derivative financial instruments and the customs debt regime and associated penalties for people with physical disabilities will be examined.
Projects Discussed in the Second Reading
The agenda also includes several draft laws that will be discussed in the second reading. Among them is the project concerning the issuance of identity cards to Moldovan citizens and residence cards issued to foreign citizens, the draft law on practicing the profession of a psychologist, amendment to the Law on Police Activity and Police Status. Other topics regarding the regulation of physical education and sports, as well as topics facilitating the implementation of energy efficiency projects will also be discussed.
Deputies are also set to examine three draft laws for harmonizing national legislation with EU legislation.
The deputies will meet in session on 22 May starting at 10:00.
