Romania to host trilateral meeting of foreign ministers in 2026

Romania will host a trilateral meeting of foreign ministers from Bucharest, Kiev and Chisinau in the first quarter of 2026. Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu made the statements today in Chisinau.

The official from Bucharest appreciated that the agenda will include the issue of Ukraine's reconstruction.

"Next year, we will host in Romania the next meeting in Odessa triangle format, the trilateral of foreign ministers, in the first quarter of 2026, where an important topic on the agenda will be Ukraine's reconstruction and how we succeed in supporting companies and investors so that all three countries have large-scale projects, demonstrating mutual openness to our markets and contributing to the economic growth we aim for," stated Oana Țoiu.

The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this will continue the trilateral meetings from 2025, which took place at the level of the head of state and foreign minister.

"We had Odessa triangle format both at the presidential level and at the foreign ministers' level. The three of us met in Chernivtsi, where there is also a significant Romanian-speaking community. It is also an important place in the biography of poet Mihai Eminescu. We wanted to jointly mark this common element of our history and culture," said Țoiu.

On August 8, the foreign diplomacy chiefs of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and Romania adopted a joint declaration in Chernivtsi reaffirming strong support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and condemning the war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation.

"When Chisinau, Kyiv, and Bucharest act together, we can build more than infrastructure or common projects - we can offer safety to our people, hope for a peaceful future, and a clear path towards a united, free, and democratic Europe," declared President Maia Sandu at the trilateral meeting of the presidents of the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine, on June 11, during the Ukraine - South-East Europe Summit in Odessa.
