New electoral commission of autonomy formed in Gagauzia

A new Electoral Commission of the autonomy has been formed in Gagauzia. Deputies of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia (PAG) voted today on its composition, appointing four new members.

The decision was adopted with the votes of 17 deputies, while one elected member did not participate in the voting process.

The new members of Gagauzia CEC are Petru Zaharia, appointed by the PAG, with Anna Dvornikova as the reserve candidate; Victor Bulgar, a representative of the autonomy's Executive Committee; Elena Dimitroglo, a representative of the Executive Committee; and Gheorghe Sult, a representative of the judicial system.

The Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia is composed of nine members, appointed by the Executive Committee, People's Assembly, and the judicial system, to ensure institutional balance in the electoral process.

The reconfiguration of the CEC occurs in the context of preparations for the upcoming autonomy elections. The elections for the People's Assembly of Gagauzia are scheduled for March 22, 2026, and the new composition of the Commission is expected to oversee the organization and conduct of the electoral process.

In 2023, the People's Assembly of Gagauzia dissolved the Electoral Commission in Comrat, and in November, the mandate of the local deputies expired. Following lengthy judicial procedures, the Supreme Court of Justice declared the dissolution of the commission illegal.
