Moldovan parliament speaker conveys message to Putin: 'History does not repeat, the empire cannot be reincarnated'

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has delivered a firm message to the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin, stating that 'history does not repeat' and that empires cannot be reincarnated, no matter whether it is about a tsarist empire or the former Soviet Union. Grosu made statements to this effect on Radio Moldova, quoted by MOLDPRES agency.

Igor Grosu was responding to a question from the moderator at the talk show, 'At 360 Degrees,' Cristina Popescu, on the message he would convey to Vladimir Putin in the event of a direct meeting.

‘’History does not repeat, the attempt to reincarnate the empire, as this is seen from his policy of restoring the empire – whether it is tsarist or USSR – you cannot do this, and what he is doing is a crime,’’ said the parliament speaker.

The speaker also warned Moldovan citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation to exercise extreme caution, as there is a risk for them to be conscripted into the Russian army and forced to fight against Ukraine.

At the same time, Igor Grosu reiterated Moldova's firm stance against Russian aggression towards Ukraine, emphasizing that Chisinau had condemned, from the very first days, the brutal and unjust war initiated by the Russian Federation. In the context, Moldovan authorities have imposed more restrictions on Russian individuals and entities involved in the elections and domestic affairs of Moldova.

At the same time, Igor Grosu announced that the Moldovan authorities would continue the process of terminating agreements considered unnecessary with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). He assured that the Transnistrian region would, in turn, integrate into the European Union, on a priority basis, after the withdrawal of Russian troops and ammunition from the territory of Moldova.
