Diaspora Days 2026 start today in Chișinău

Diaspora Days 2026 start today and will take place throughout the month of August under the motto “Wherever We Are, Moldova Unites Us!”. The program includes events dedicated to young people, professionals, leaders of diaspora associations and all citizens interested in contributing to the development of the Republic of Moldova.

The activities are organized by the Diaspora Relations Bureau within the State Chancellery. This year’s edition focuses on the diaspora’s contribution to the development of the Republic of Moldova. For almost three weeks, cultural, educational, civic, tourist and sports activities will be held, meant to facilitate the reconnection of Moldovans abroad with their home country, dialogue with public authorities and their involvement in the development of their communities of origin.

The program starts today with the opening of the exhibition “Bessarabian Authors in the World”, hosted by the National Library of the Republic of Moldova. On August 4, the event “Youth Talk: Young People Change the World” will take place at the Government House, and on August 7, the Diaspora Forum, the main event of this year’s edition, is scheduled at the Palace of the Republic. Participants will discuss civic engagement, European integration, the exchange of good practices between Moldovan communities abroad and the role of the diaspora in the sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova.

The program also includes an “Open Doors Day”, during which 22 public institutions will receive members of the diaspora to present their work and the services they provide. In total, 31 workshops will be organized, both in person and online. The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is also joining this initiative, inviting citizens living abroad to learn more about the institution’s activities and the decision-making process.

Other activities include a book exhibition and meetings with authors from the diaspora, the event “Youth Talk: Young People Change the World”, excursions and hikes in various regions of the country, the Diaspora Cup organized on August 15, as well as City Quest, an interactive game organized for the first time to promote the heritage and tourist attractions of Chișinău.

Throughout the month there will also be art and heritage exhibitions, a fair of folk craftsmen, as well as information stands of public institutions and development partners.

According to the Diaspora Relations Bureau, Diaspora Days remain an important platform through which the Government of the Republic of Moldova strengthens dialogue with citizens living abroad, supports their involvement in the country’s development and helps to maintain the connection between the Republic of Moldova and its diaspora.
