PMs of Moldova, Ukraine discuss by phone
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has held a phone conversation with Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhii Koretskyi. The discussion reconfirmed the close relationship between Moldova and Ukraine, built on trust, solidarity and mutual respect.
The PM reiterated Moldova’s firm support for Ukraine and emphasized that the country would continue to stand by the Ukrainian people. At the same time, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan thanked Ukraine for the courage and resilience it has shown in defending the freedom and security of the entire region.
During the conversation, the two prime ministers addressed a number of topics of common interest, with a direct impact on the citizens and economies of both states.
One of the topics discussed concerned the hydrological situation of the Dniester River. In the context of the deficit of precipitation and the critically low water level in the Novodnistrovsk reservoir, the officials underlined the need for responsible and coordinated management of water resources, in order to prevent a worsening of the situation.
The prime ministers also agreed to accelerate the implementation of the construction project for the Cosauti–Yampil bridge. This new infrastructure objective will facilitate border crossing in the Soroca area, reduce waiting times, and support the development of trade flows and mobility between the two countries.
The agenda of the discussions also included cooperation in the railway sector. The officials examined opportunities to strengthen collaboration between the railways Moldova and Ukraine, including in the context of the transit of Ukrainian grain to the port of Constanta. A more efficient railway infrastructure and enhanced coordination will contribute to increasing trade flows and will generate economic benefits for both states, including additional revenue for the Moldovan Railways.
At the end of the conversation, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan extended an invitation to his counterpart to pay an official visit to Chisinau.
