Moldovan speaker: World Down Syndrome Day about courage, acceptance, kindness

Speaker Igor Grosu announced that he organized joint activities with 'sun children' at the Parliament. He said that this year he made together with them the sun - the symbol that represents them.

He noted that it is becoming a beautiful tradition to organize joint activities with 'sun children' at the Parliament.

"This year, we made together the sun - the symbol which represents them for their warm and very kind nature. These children teach us that we are all different, yet equal. It is important to realize that inclusion starts with us and each of us can contribute to the acceptance of these children," said Grosu.

He said that today's day - World Down Syndrome Day is about courage, acceptance and kindness.

"We are all different, yet equal - this is not just a motto, but it needs to become a reality," Grosu added.

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated in Moldova. The syndrome is not a disease, but a permanent genetic change characterized by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. The World Health Organization reports that globally, one in a thousand newborns is diagnosed with this condition.
