People contribute to planting forest of 10,000 poplars in Moldova
People have contributed to the planting of a forest of ten thousand poplars, within the Donate for a Green Future initiative. Minister of Environment Sergiu Lazarencu made statements to this effect.
The trees were planted on nine hectares of a forest in the village of Parata, eastern Dubasari district.
“Moldova can: tree by tree, donation by donation – we managed to plant another forest. Thanks to everyone who participated in the campaign, today, in the village of Parata, on the banks of the Dniester river, ten thousand trees are taking root, or nine hectares of poplars. This example shows that the National Afforestation Program manages to unite society and the private sector in a joint effort for a healthier Moldova,” said Minister Sergiu Lazarencu.
In total, since the launch of the campaign, over 40 thousand transactions have been made, resulting in around 400 thousand lei collected.
The environment minister specified that activities within the Forest Generation afforestation campaign continued and he called on economic agents, civil society, and all citizens to join the afforestation efforts.
This spring, the Ministry of Environment aims to plant over 8 million seedlings throughout the country on an area of 3,500 hectares. The objective is part of the National Programme for Forest Expansion and Rehabilitation (PNERP), which aims to afforest 145,000 hectares in the next ten years, contributing to a greener and cleaner Moldova.
