China to support implementation of renewable energy, energy storage projects in Moldova

Moldova is outlining new development directions in the field of renewable energy and electricity storage, projects considered essential for modernizing the energy infrastructure and strengthening the country's energy security. These initiatives are part of a broader cooperation package discussed during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi and President of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) of the People's Republic of China Chen Xiaodong.

A central point of the meeting was the exchange of notes on the launch of feasibility studies for more initiatives to be considered for implementation in  Moldova, with the support of the People's Republic of China.

“They regard projects in the field of renewable energy and electricity storage, as well as endowing specialized services with technical equipment (special vehicles and compressed-air breathing apparatus) and medical products,” a press release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) reads.

According to the signed document, the Chinese side will conduct a technical evaluation through a team of experts. Based on the conclusions of the feasibility studies, financing and implementation options for the projects will subsequently be analyzed.

The President of CIDCA reaffirmed the Chinese side’s readiness to continue the dialogue and identify new cooperation opportunities. The officials agreed to maintain institutional contacts and technical consultations in areas of common interest.

“The Chinese side is willing to cooperate with the Moldovan side, by seizing the opportunity offered by the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, in order to continuously deepen pragmatic cooperation in such areas as new energy, healthcare and human resources’ development, thus making an increased contribution to the well-being of both peoples,” said the Chinese official, quoted by the Embassy of China in Chisinau.

According to the MAE, the discussions focused on the prospects of bilateral cooperation and the implementation of projects of common interest, with both sides reconfirming their interest in deepening the Moldova–China dialogue, with an emphasis on concrete results and mutual benefits.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi presented Moldova’s priorities in the process of European integration, including the modernization of infrastructure and the strengthening of economic resilience—objectives meant to contribute to improving citizens’ quality of life. At the same time, the official highlighted Moldova’s interest in expanding cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, agriculture, energy efficiency and healthcare.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi today also had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi in Beijing. The two officials discussed the evolution of the Moldova–China relations and the prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in the economic and trade sectors, through expanding exports and facilitating the access of domestic products to the Chinese market.
