Goods exports up by 10 percent in first three months of 2026: EU stays main market for Moldovan products

The exports of goods of Moldova increased by 10.2 percent during January–March 2026 and amounted to 848.5 million euros. The European Union maintained its position as the main market for Moldovan products, with a share of 61.8 percent of total exports.

According to data by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), exports of goods meant for European Union countries in January–March 2026 totaled 524.9 million euros, which is by 9.5 percent more compared to the same period of 2025, accounting for a share of 61.8 percent of total exports.

On the other hand, exports of goods meant for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries had a value of 52.3 million euros, equivalent to a share of 6.2 percent of total exports.

BNS data also show that the main destination countries for exports of goods were Romania (27 percent of total exports), Turkey, Italy, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Germany, which together accounted for 73.3 percent of total exports.

Among the products with the largest shares in exports, there are oil seeds and oleaginous fruits, electrical machinery and equipment and their parts, vegetables and fruits, cereals and cereal preparations, clothing and accessories, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, furniture and its parts, oil, oil products and related materials, vegetable fats and oils, metal ores and metal waste and articles of non-metallic minerals.

At the same time, imports of goods in the period January–March 2026 totaled 2,453.1 million euros, a level 1.4 percent higher again the same period of 2025. The trade balance deficit in January–March 2026 recorded a decrease of 2.6 percent compared to the same period of 2025.
