VIDEO // Moldovan government next week to approve single document Europe is Close Programme

The single document on Europe is Close Programme will be approved at a cabinet meeting, due next week. Immediately after its publication in the Official Journal, contracts will be signed with each of the 132 winning municipalities from the 2025 edition. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea today made statements to this effect.

‘’This is the first edition; a second one will follow, including in 2025 and with a conclusion in 2026, because we are, after all, talking about a multi-annual programme. Congratulations to those who submitted applications, and here I mean all 568 projects, as all will receive financial resources from the national budget. We are taking actions for the people of Moldova, especially for those in rural areas of  Moldova,’’ said Vladimir Bolea.

According to the deputy PM, people in rural areas are those who urgently need good roads, in order to be able to subsequently attract investors and develop small businesses.

‘’Roads’ infrastructure means investments in the first stage, and later opportunities to develop local businesses, so this programme will continue. It is quite welcome and has been developed in strict accordance with the needs and requirements of the people of Moldova,’’ Bolea noted.

A record number of 579 projects for the construction and rehabilitation of local roads have been submitted and declared eligible under the multi-annual Europe is Close Programme, aimed at developing local roads’ infrastructure. The total value of the projects exceeds 2.6 billion lei.

According to authorities, all registered projects will receive funding and will be implemented in two stages, over the years 2025–2026.

As many as 132 projects with a total value of 568 million lei have been selected for the first edition in 2025. They will start in the near future, contributing to the modernization of the roads’ network in rural and urban localities throughout the country.

The Europe is Close programme aims to improve citizens' access to public services, by developing roads’ infrastructure and supports efforts to reduce disparities between regions. The grants target local roads that connect villages to district centers or essential public institutions.
