Railway segment in southern region ready for rehabilitation: Railway of Moldova enterprise launches tender for works
The Railway of Moldova state enterprise (CFM) announces the launch of a public tender for the carrying out of rehabilitation works on the railway segment in the village of Valeni, southern Cahul district, following the completion of its design documentation.
The technical documentation which regards a segment of approximately 360 meters, was developed by the local company Intexnauca, which applied modern technologies and efficient engineering solutions.
"The project includes comprehensive measures to consolidate the banks of the Prut River, aimed at protecting the railway infrastructure from landslides, erosion and other risks caused by natural phenomena. Planned works include organized surface water collection and drainage, strengthening the banks in landslide-prone areas, constructing a support structure in the affected embankment sector, and rehabilitating the railway line," said CFM.
The segment was built in 2007, but suffered severe damage in August 2022 due to land subsidence caused by natural calamities. The suspension of railway traffic on the Cahul–Giurgiulesti route has resulted in monthly losses of about 10 million lei for the enterprise, severely impacting the logistical and economic activity of the region.
By rehabilitating this strategic segment, direct railway connectivity to the International Port of Giurgiulesti will be restored, avoiding transit through external territories and strengthening the logistical independence of Moldova, according to the cited source.
The work will be financed with the 85 million lei allocated by the government for the rehabilitation of railway infrastructure on the Valeni and Falciu segments. This project represents an important step in modernizing railway transport and strengthening Moldova's role in the regional logistics and trade network.
