Budget Plus // Over 4.8 million lei to be allocated for modernizing canteens in Ungheni schools

About 4.82 million lei from the 200 million lei allocated by the Government through the Budget Plus project for equipping school canteens in the country have been distributed to Ungheni district. The resources will be used to create conditions for over 10,000 students in Ungheni, including more than 5,500 secondary school students, to be fed for free starting from the new school year.

“Our goal is to reduce absenteeism, especially in rural areas, as student nutrition contributes to better school attendance. Studies also show that nutrition contributes to improved school performance,” said Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun during his visit to Ungheni today.

The official discussed with local mayors and school directors in Ungheni about the challenges facing the education system at the local level and addressing concrete solutions.

A topic addressed by the minister was the new kindergarten financing formula, which was piloted this year in preschool institutions in four districts of the country and will be implemented nationally starting in 2026.

“The formula starts from several premises. One of the most important is to ensure that we have kindergartens in every locality, which is crucial for us,” stated Dan Perciun.

In Ungheni district, investments have been made to enhance learning conditions in several educational institutions as part of the two editions of the European Village Program launched by the Government. A total of 24.33 million lei has been invested in seven educational institutions in the district for various infrastructure improvement projects. Additionally, A. Pușkin Theoretical High School, which is part of the Model Schools Network, will undergo renovation and modernization to ensure the quality of education.

Meanwhile, four schools and nine kindergartens in Ungheni district are benefiting from modern furniture and equipment, funded by the World Bank, as part of a comprehensive support program for 200 schools across the country.
