Casa Verde Program launched in Moldova

Casa Verde Program was launched today for the first time in the Republic of Moldova. Through this program, families can obtain grants of up to 200,000 lei to carry out home energy efficiency works. It represents a new financing product for our country, part of the Residential Sector Energy Efficiency Fund in Moldova (FEERM).

Casa Verde offers an accessible solution for reducing household energy consumption, increasing home comfort, and contributing to environmental protection. The product was developed by the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED) in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and with support from development partners.

The total budget of the program is 185 million lei. From these funds, about 930 families will be supported. For this year, the authorities plan a budget of 149 million lei for approximately 750 beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries will be able to receive an amount of up to 200,000 lei, covering at most 50% of the expenses for the works carried out. The other half of the work costs will be borne by the beneficiary.

The financial resources offered to program beneficiaries can be used for thermal insulation of the roof, walls, foundation, and basement of the house, replacing old windows and doors with new ones, installing a heat recovery ventilation system, modernizing the heating and hot water distribution system, installing central heating units on solid biofuels, installing heat pumps, solar panel systems with storage batteries.

The program is intended for households, with eligibility for individual homes owned by families with at least one child. Applicants must not have outstanding debts to the budget.

The Director of the National Center for Sustainable Energy, Ion Muntean, stated that applications for the program can be submitted online through the platform http://feerm.md

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu stated that the launch of the program marks an important moment for the energy future of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the minister, the initiative is important in light of the fact that, in the Republic of Moldova, nearly 50% of all energy consumption is in the residential sector, and homes have a low level of energy efficiency, as most were constructed before 1990.

"Casa Verde means fewer losses, lower bills, greater thermal comfort in any season, and a higher market value for the home", remarked Dorin Junghietu.

"We are pleased to support the government in Chisinau in implementing energy efficiency projects and want to reaffirm our contribution and support in the reform agenda," stressed Solomon Ioannou, program manager at the EU Delegation to Chisinau.

Verena Zell, head of the Development Cooperation Section at the German Embassy in Chisinau, stated that supporting the green transition process in Moldova is a priority for Germany, whether it's about providing energy compensation to citizens or the energy efficiency of public buildings. The official assured that Germany will continue to support Moldova in the field of energy efficiency.

Claudia Hermes, country director, GIZ Moldova, mentioned that Casa Verde program is a unique opportunity for families in Moldova to receive support to renovate their homes and make them more energy-efficient, reducing bills and improving living conditions.

The Residential Sector Energy Efficiency Fund in Moldova (FEERM) is a national program with a budget of 1.4 billion lei, aimed at financing energy rehabilitation projects for homes in Moldova. The program supports both multi-storey blocks and individual households, aiming to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in the energy sector.
