Energy Community Secretariat welcomes Moldova's progress in integrating into EU energy market
Moldova is making strides in its integration process into the European Union's energy market, contributing to price stability, increased energy resilience, and improved management of renewable energy flows. This finding was made by the Energy Community Secretariat, which welcomed the progress made by our country in this process.
Among the most recent actions highlighted by the Energy Community Secretariat are the adoption of a new electricity law and the designation of OPEM as the Operator of the electricity market in Moldova. Additionally, a reverse VAT charge mechanism has been approved for wholesale markets of electricity and natural gas, removing fiscal barriers for cross-border trade.
The Ministry of Energy reported that these achievements are the result of two years of close collaboration between the ministry, ANRE, Moldelectrica, and the Energy Community Secretariat.
'Moldova's progress in transposing the Electricity Integration Package paves the way for full integration into the EU electricity market once compliance is verified. This demonstrates Moldova's determination to advance in the energy sector reform and reflects a deep understanding of its importance for fostering competition, attracting new investments, and ensuring a secure energy future,' said Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.
In these circumstances, the Energy Community Secretariat emphasized that it will continue to work with the authorities in Chișinău to support the adoption of further necessary regulations in the context of integration into the European Union's energy market.
