First stage of external evaluation at Moldova's Special Prosecutor's Office, Prosecutor General's Office: 17 out of 90 prosecutors resign
Fifteen prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) and two ones of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) have resigned within 20 days after the notification regarding the first stage of the external evaluation process, according to the External Evaluation Commission.
The quoted source said that another 73 prosecutors had submitted all requested documents completely and in time. Based on the collected information, the Commission will start analyzing the financial and integrity profile of each prosecutor.
The Commission's president, Christopher Lehmann, said that the prompt responses of the majority of prosecutors showed that the evaluation process was advancing transparently and responsibly.
“Where needed, the Commission will request additional information not only from prosecutors, but also from public authorities, financial institutions, economic agents or other relevant sources. Subsequently, public hearings will be organized for each prosecutor. Each evaluation will conclude with a written report containing a recommendation for promotion or non-promotion. This report will be sent to both the prosecutor and the Superior Council of Prosecutors, which will make the final decision,” Lehmann also said.
The commission for the evaluation of prosecutors completed the first stage of the external evaluation process for PPCCOCS prosecutors. This phase focused on collecting basic documents from prosecutors officially notified on May 7 and June 3, 2025.
Ninety prosecutors were included in this stage in all: 78 from PCCOCS and 12 from the Prosecutor General’s Office. They were asked to submit statements of assets and personal interests for the last five years, a list of close individuals working in the judicial system, at the prosecutor’s office or in public institutions, as well as a questionnaire regarding ethical integrity.
