Moldova's Supreme Court of Justice confirms decision of prosecutors' evaluation commission decision in case of Ghenadie Pirlii

The Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) has rejected the appeal filed by prosecutor Ghenadie Pirlii, thus maintaining the decision of the Prosecutors' Evaluation Commission from December 18, 2024, which found his failure to pass the integrity evaluation. Pirlii was a candidate for the position of member of the College for the Selection and Evaluation of Prosecutors, a body subordinate to the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP).

CSJ concluded that the evaluation had been conducted in accordance with Law No. 26/2022, and the Commission acted "diligently," asking for relevant information from public and financial institutions, in order to verify discrepancies identified in the prosecutor's declarations. According to the CSJ, Pirlii had the opportunity to provide clarifications and supporting documents, but "did not fully exercise this right," adopting a passive attitude.

"The court panel does not find grounds for the cancellation of the Commission's decision. It was issued legally, without serious procedural errors that could have affected the fairness of the process," reads the CSJ ruling.

This is the fifth consecutive decision of the CSJ, which confirms the conclusions of the Prosecutors' Evaluation Commission regarding the failure of the integrity evaluation in the vetting process. Six other similar decisions are still pending before the court.

In a statement, the Prosecutors' Evaluation Commission reiterated its commitment to a rigorous, fair and transparent process, in support of justice reform and the strengthening of the rule of law state in Moldova.
