Moldovan state increases monthly allowances for participants Chernobyl accident relief works
The people who participated in the Chernobyl accident relief works and suffer from various forms of disability will benefit from increased state monthly allowances, starting from August 1, 2025. The parliament today approved a draft legislative amendment to this effect, in the first reading.
According to the document, allowances will be increased by 250 lei for participants with severe, accentuated or medium disability, whose conditions are directly linked to the intervention in the area affected by the nuclear accident from 1986. Beneficiaries include former military personnel, intelligence and security officers, members of the Interior Ministry’s troops, as well as individuals who were sent on missions by ministries, enterprises or organizations.
The list of those who will receive extended support also includes individuals diagnosed with radiogenic illness or those who acquired disabilities following radiation exposure during intervention missions. At the same time, surviving spouses and one of the parents of participants who have passed away will benefit from these increased allowances.
Another targeted group is the one of individuals who came to Moldova in 1986 from the area hit by the disaster and who subsequently acquired the citizenship of the state.
The draft was initiated by MP Iulia Dascalu, a member of the parliamentary faction of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) and aims to strengthen the social protection of a vulnerable category affected by one of the most severe nuclear tragedies of the 20th century.
To implement this measure, the government announced the allocation of four million lei from the state budget. The draft is to be considered in the second reading.
