Romanian language teachers of Moldova to attend training courses in Romania

A group of 78 teachers of Romanian language and literature from the educational institutions of non-native speakers from more districts of Moldova will participate in Romanian language training courses, organized in more universities in Romania during June 30-July 19.

The program has reached its second edition, and was organized for the first time in the summer of 2024, when 107 teachers from Moldova participated in training courses in Romania. They are organized at an initiative by Moldova’s Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) and the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, with the support of the Romanian Education Ministry.

Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun thanked Romania for the support provided in organizing this programme, as well as the teachers who had chosen to participate in the courses.

“This is a project we hold dear. I thank my colleagues from Romania for their openness in implementing this initiative. In 2024, we considered it quite useful to offer training courses for our teachers, who teach the Romanian language in non-native speakers’ schools. And not classic format courses, but real experiences lived in Romania, at universities there. This happened last year and this year we can have an even larger number of teachers participating in these activities. This is an extraordinary opportunity to go to Romania, but it's not just about visiting Romania, it's also an academic exchange and an educational process we invite you to participate in,” stated Dan Perciun.

Marc Emilian Morar, minister counselor at the Romanian Embassy in Moldova, said that the principal merit for the continuation of these courses in Romania was of the Romanian language teachers, who expressed their interest in participating in the programme.

“We are happy that we managed to jointly continue this important programme, initiated for the first time last year. The main merit for the continuation of these courses in Romania is yours, the Romanian language teachers. Without your determination and courage, this programme wouldn't have continued,” the official emphasized.

Marc Emilian Morar also delivered a message on behalf of Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu, during the event.

“We share the same values and aspirations in Balti, Taraclia, Vulcanesti, or Edinet. And on the other side of the Prut, at universities in Timisoara, Oradea, Brasov, Cluj, Suceava, Iasi, Galati, colleagues are waiting for you who are aware that we have things to learn from each other and also the responsibility to guide generations of young people who find themselves in the cultural and linguistic diversity of the European space, of which Moldova is an integral part. Without a doubt, the value of this intensive training course lies in the direct contact you will have with your colleagues on the other bank of the Prut River, close friendships will be made and the linguistic immersion will have a beneficial effect, both on strengthening your professional education and enhancing the level of motivation and confidence in your own abilities,” reads the Romanian ambassador's message.

State Secretary at MEC Valentina Olaru expressed hope that the initiative would have a real impact on the educational process and stimulate students' interest in the Romanian language.

In the summer of 2024, within the same program, over 100 Romanian language teachers from the Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) of Gagauzia, the districts of Taraclia, Dubasari and the municipality of Balti benefited from training courses in various universities in Romania.

According to MEC’s data, there are about 900 Romanian language teachers in Moldova’s educational system who teach in 255 non-native speakers’ schools.
