Moldova's parliament speaker in London says recognition of Moldovan driving licenses in United Kingdom close to completion

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has paid an official visit to London, where he met with Speaker of the House of Commons of the UK Parliament, Sir Lindsay Hoyle. The discussions focused on deepening the bilateral relations and major topics of interest for Moldovan citizens residing in the United Kingdom.

An important point addressed during the meeting was the mutual recognition of driving licenses, a measure expected by thousands of Moldovans in the Diaspora. According to Igor Grosu, this initiative is ‘’at the final stages,’’ and the British authorities have expressed full openness to finalizing the process.

‘’This is an important step for our community in the United Kingdom, which will significantly contribute to the integration and mobility of Moldovan citizens in the British society,’’ Grosu stated.

Besides this subject, the discussions included the constant support provided by United Kingdom in such essential areas as good governance, combating the misinformation, cybersecurity and press freedom. At the same time, there has been an increase in Moldovan exports to the United Kingdom, supported by the five-year extension of the tariff liberalization regime, especially for fruits, such as apples, plums, cherries and grapes.

Igor Grosu emphasized that Moldova continued its European path with determination and aimed to become a reliable partner for the democratic states.

‘’We know what we have to do and we are happy to have countries like Great Britain by our side, which unequivocally supports us in our modernization efforts,’’ the official added.

The United Kingdom is home to one of the largest communities of Moldovans in the Diaspora, actively contributing to the cultural diversity and economic development of the host country.
