Prime Minister visited agricultural household in Mălăiești village, Orhei district
Prime Minister Dorin Recean visited the agricultural household of the Ivanov family in Mălăiești village, Orhei district. The farmers cultivate an area of over 700 hectares, growing perennial crops, and own 30 orchards of cherries, apples, plums, and nectarines.
The company's administrator, Igor Ivanov, is a second-generation farmer, gradually taking over the business from his father. Thanks to practicing efficient agriculture, the producers manage to grow their business and export their products to countries such as Romania and Poland.
In the last 10 years, Ivanov family has received subsidies from the Government amounting to around 1 million lei. 'This is a considerable aid in business development. With this money, we managed to acquire some modern equipment, anti-hail protection systems, and recover expenses for apple orchard seedlings,' said the entrepreneur. Meanwhile, he has submitted applications to AIPA to benefit from other subsidies for the nectarine orchard, purchasing equipment, and a tractor.
Recean inquired about the current state of the harvest following the low temperatures this spring. The farm owners mentioned that the frosts significantly affected the cherry and apple crops, which will be directed towards juice production.
Ivanov farmers highlighted the need for developing irrigation systems. In this context, the Prime Minister specified that the rehabilitation of centralized irrigation systems is a priority for the Government and mentioned that IFAD offers local producer groups funding of up to 500,000 dollars for the development of water distribution infrastructure.
The agricultural household employs 16 staff members, with over 70 seasonal workers engaged for various tasks.
