Moldova's foreign ministry issues travel alert for Bulgaria
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova has issued a travel alert for Moldovan citizens planning to transit through Bulgaria, due to the implementation of traffic restrictions on the Friendship Bridge Giurgiu–Ruse, starting Friday, July 4, 2025.
According to authorities, the measure is applied by the Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DRDP) Bucharest due to high temperatures in the summer season, which can affect the bridge's structure. The restrictions will be in effect daily between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM on several sections, including the Friendship Bridge area.
During the restrictions, vehicles will stop on DN5 before accessing the bridge; at both ends of the bridge, traffic pilots will coordinate traffic according to the traffic lights installed by Bulgarian authorities.
In this context, the ministry advises citizens planning to transit this area to carefully plan their route, considering possible delays; to consult the official channels of the authorities in Romania and Bulgaria for real-time updates and to follow the page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova and the Embassy in Sofia for new information.
For emergencies, Moldovan citizens can contact the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Sofia at the phone number +359 877 819 314 or via email at sofia@mfa.gov.md.
