National culture preserved by Moldovans in Kazakhstan

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with members of the Moldovan diaspora and the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan during his working visit to Almaty. The official thanked the community for the contribution to promoting the Moldovan language and culture and reiterated that supporting the diaspora remains a priority for the Government of the Republic of Moldova.

Currently, over 4,000 people originating from the Republic of Moldova live and work in Almaty, actively involved in the city's economic and social life. The meeting provided an opportunity for an open dialogue on how our diaspora manages to preserve national culture thousands of kilometers away. The event was hosted by the Friendship House in Almaty and brought together representatives from Moldovan associations Struguraș (Almaty) and Dacia (Karagandy).

"I have been convinced that our citizens, wherever they are, are interested in what happens at home and are aware of the challenges we face. For this reason, one of the priorities of the ministry is building a closer dialogue with the diaspora and involving them in the transformation of our country," he said.

The official said that opening the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Astana will contribute to strengthening diplomatic presence and facilitate direct connections with citizens in Kazakhstan. At the same time, the discussions also referred to collaboration opportunities in the fields of education and culture.

Popșoi welcomed the activity of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, an institution that has contributed to social cohesion and the promotion of ethnic diversity for three decades.

Popșoi is paying an official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan on July 1–3, at the invitation of his Kazakh counterpart, Murat Nurtleu.
