European Village // 19.5 million lei invested in educational infrastructure development in north-western Moldova district

The north-western Falesti district benefits from investments of 19.5 million lei through the European Village governmental programme for the development of educational infrastructure. Thus, in the programme's first edition, two projects from Falesti were funded with a total of 1.5 million lei, while in the second edition, five projects are planned with a total value of almost 18 million lei, focusing on energy efficiency, reconstructions and sports infrastructure.

At the same time, eight educational institutions of the Falesti district have been selected to be endowed with modern furniture and equipment, as part of a comprehensive support programme for 200 schools nationwide. Other investments are directed towards equipping kindergartens, including Andries early education institution in the city of Falesti, which will receive equipment worth over 6,600 dollars. These purchases are made with the financial support of the World Bank.

Initiatives were analyzed by Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, who visited Falesti. The official discussed strategic priorities and initiatives of the Ministry in the educational field with mayors and directors of general educational institutions.

A major topic addressed was the implementation of the national school feeding programme. In the Falesti district, over 6,000 students benefit from free meals, and more than 3.3 million lei has been allocated on this purpose for the year 2025. Also, the minister referred to government’s support in allocating 1,000 lei for each child in grades I-IX at the beginning of the school year, in order to cover school preparation needs, such as purchasing supplies, clothing or other necessary materials.

Dan Perciun talked about the holding of this year's gymnasium graduation exams.

"We wanted to have a fairer exam than in previous years, to have a more accurate, more just reflection of the real situation in the territory. The purpose of this exercise was not to punish anyone, but to know the real situation and see what we can do together in the future, in order to make things go better," said Dan Perciun.

In the context of this year's admissions, the minister encouraged directors and representatives of local administrations to motivate young people from the Falesti district to explore opportunities provided by vocational technical education, including through dual education, which allows for the simultaneous accumulation of theoretical knowledge and practical experience in enterprises.

A key point of the discussions was the rehabilitation of sanitary infrastructure. With the support of United nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), five institutions of the district will benefit from modernization works on sanitary blocks. The Public Institution Ion Creanga Theoretical Lyceum of the Falesti city, selected in the Model Schools Network, is to be renovated with support from the Polish government, and energy efficiency works will be carried out through the STEEM (Sustainable Transition through Energy Efficiency in Moldova) Project.
