Traffic opened on bridge across Bâc river, overpass over railway on M1 Road #MoldovaCan
The bridge across the Bâc River and the overpass over the railway were opened for traffic today. These are two essential infrastructure objectives on the national route M1, which connects the border with Romania (Leuseni), the municipality of Chisinau, the Dubasari region and the border with Ukraine.
The works, initiated in January 2023, included the construction of two new bridges — one 80 meters long over the Bâc River and another 60 meters long over the railway — as well as the development of 2 kilometers of new road connecting Pietrăriei street to Calea Ieșilor. The road complex also includes five new footbridges and was meant to divert traffic intended for the Vatra settlement, thus eliminating a critical congestion point.
“Today, we bring extraordinary news for all drivers of Moldova. This extensive infrastructure project will bring immediate benefits to carriers and citizens transiting the area. This achievement is part of an ambitious national programme, through which we have built 42 bridges on the period 2021-2025. Each bridge and each modernized road represent a concrete step towards a European Moldova, with safe and modern infrastructure that demonstrates respect for people,” said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea.
For his part, the general director of the National Roads Administration, Sergiu Bejan, said that this was not just a simple bridge work, but the commissioning of a vital traffic knot for both the national route M1 and municipal traffic, considering its overlap with the Balcani highway, one of the busiest in terms of heavy traffic.
“We congratulate the teams of workers and all partners for the qualitative carrying out and active involvement, which made the completion of this strategic objective possible,” said Sergiu Bejan.
The rehabilitation works of the two structures were carried out within a strategic project for the modernization of the transport network of Moldova, financed from external and internal sources. The repair and strengthening of the bridge over the Bâc River, as well as the railway overpass aimed to enhance the road traffic safety and improve the flow of national and international transport.
The reopening of these sections will significantly contribute to easing traffic on one of the country's most important transport arteries, ensuring efficient connection between the west and east of Moldova, with a direct impact on trade, citizens’ mobility and regional economic development.
The project was implemented by the National Roads Administration, with involvement from Rutador and Poduri Prim companies. With the official opening, the first vehicles crossed the new structures, marking the start of a new stage in urban and national mobility, on a faster and safer transport corridor.
