Moldova, Ukraine reaffirm importance of regional cooperation in Odesa Triangle format

Moldova and Ukraine reaffirm their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation by continuing joint and trilateral projects in Odesa Triangle format, which brings together Moldova, Ukraine and Romania. State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ministry Corina Calugaru today discussed the topic, during a meeting with Ambassador of Ukraine to Moldova Paun Rohovei.

The discussions focused on the situation in Ukraine, including the massive air attack launched by the Russian Federation against the Ukrainian state on May 24, this year, with the main target being the city of Kyiv. In the context, the Moldovan official reiterated Moldova’s firm condemnation of the war of aggression against Ukraine and reconfirmed support for the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities and the international community to end the war and restore a just and lasting peace.

For his part, Ambassador Paun Rohovei congratulated Moldova on the results achieved during its Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, including its contribution to negotiating and adopting the Resolution on the establishment of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on the Management Committee of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

The sides made an assessment of the current state of Moldovan-Ukrainian relations and confirmed their willingness to deepen the bilateral cooperation. In the context, they discussed the possibility of organizing a meeting at the level of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, with a view to fully resuming its activities.

The two officials also reaffirmed the need for the continued implementation of joint projects, including trilateral ones in the Odesa Triangle format, as well as the organization of a meeting at the level of the prime ministers of the three states.

Special attention was also paid to the European integration process of Moldova and Ukraine.
