IBRD to finance studies for new cogeneration plant in Chișinău
The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) will finance studies for a new cogeneration plant in Chișinău. The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy has approved the advisory opinion to initiate negotiations with the IBRD regarding a grant of about 1.7 million dollars.
The funds will be used by the Ministry of Energy to prepare the technical documentation, feasibility studies, and environmental and social assessments required for the construction of a new cogeneration plant at Termoelectrica. The plant will have an electric capacity of approximately 250 MW and a thermal capacity of 180 MW.
The construction will be financed separately by the World Bank. Once completed, the plant will allow the simultaneous production of electricity and heat with lower fuel consumption, reducing the risk of interruptions and improving district heating and hot water services for consumers in the municipality of Chișinău.
After signing, the agreement is to be ratified by Parliament, and the grant funds will be available until December 30, 2027.
