Moldova to appoint new ambassadors to several countries
Chișinău authorities will appoint new ambassadors of Moldova to several countries. President Maia Sandu made the statement at a TV8 broadcast. The head of state noted that ambassadors will be replaced, including in major countries, and most of them will be appointed from among diplomats.
The President said that the Republic of Moldova will replace ambassadors in many countries due to the expiration of the terms. Maia Sandu did not provide a specific answer about whether the ambassador to the USA will be replaced, but confirmed that new ambassadors will be appointed, 'including in major countries.'
'Ambassadors will be replaced, including in major countries. There will be quite a large number of countries in which new ambassadors will be appointed because their terms are ending,' the president said.
Maia Sandu hinted that not all ambassadors will be appointed from among diplomats, with state interests being a priority.
'In most cases, diplomats will be appointed. (...) We base our decisions on the state's interests. Sometimes, in some countries, in some contexts, we need to find the right person to represent our state's interests,' explained Maia Sandu.
According to data of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Republic of Moldova has embassies in 31 countries worldwide, a representation at the European Union, and three representations at international organizations.
