Moldovan PM has phone conversation with Ukrainian counterpart

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today had a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Serhii Koretskyi. The two officials addressed more topics of common interest, including the management of the situation on the Dniester River, the construction of the Cosauti–Yampil bridge and the development of railway cooperation, in order to facilitate freight transport—initiatives that can generate economic benefits for both countries.

The Moldovan official thanked his Ukrainian counterpart for the courage and resilience of his people, who are defending the security of the entire region.

“I had a very good and very concrete conversation with Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhii Koretskyi. I conveyed that Moldova will continue to stand by Ukraine, just as it has from the very first day. I thanked him for the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people, who are defending not only the freedom of their own country, but also the security of our entire region,” said Vasile Tofan.

The two officials also discussed more practical topics of common interest, aimed at bringing benefits to citizens and contributing to the development of both countries’ economies.

“First of all, this concerns the situation on the Dniester. Given the lack of precipitation and the critically low level of the Novodnistrovsk reservoir, we must manage the water flow with the utmost responsibility and avoid aggravating an already difficult situation,” Vasile Tofan emphasized.

The PM highlighted that, during the discussion, the sides had agreed to speed up the construction of the Cosauti–Yampil bridge.

“This project will simplify border crossing in the Soroca direction and will save time for people, carriers and companies,” the official noted.

Vasile Tofan and Serhii Koretskyi also discussed cooperation between the railways of the two countries, including in the context of transporting Ukrainian grain to the Port of Constanta.

“A more efficient railway infrastructure and better coordination can bring economic benefits to both countries, as well as additional revenue for the Railway of Moldova (CFM) enterprise,” added Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

The PM underlined the high level of cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine, based on trust, solidarity and mutual respect.

“Between Moldova and Ukraine, a relationship based on trust, solidarity, and mutual respect has been built in recent years. We want to turn this relationship into as many concrete projects as possible, projects that make people’s lives easier and our economies stronger,” concluded Vasile Tofan.

The relations between Moldova and Ukraine have boosted in recent years, against the backdrop of both states’ European integration processes and the regional challenges generated by the war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The two states cooperate in such areas as security, energy, water resource management, transport infrastructure and trade facilitation.
