Former leader of Moldovan Democratic Party to testify in 'Kuliok' file

The former leader of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM), Vladimir Plahotniuc, today announced, before a court hearing, that he would testify in the 'kuliok' file, in which former President Igor Dodon is indicted.

The request for his testimony was made by prosecutors, as the former PDM leader  appears in images where the former head of state, Igor Dodon, is handed a bag suspected to contain money.

Igor Dodon has earlier declared himself innocent and reiterated that the images showing him were doctored.

The 'kuliok' file was resumed in late last November after the judicial panel was changed, and the process practically started from scratch.

During previous proceedings, the court heard 15 prosecution witnesses and examined numerous documents and reports.

The criminal investigation in the generically named 'kuliok' file was resumed on May 18, 2022, after the Chisinau Court of Appeal had quashed the ruling by the Chisinau Court on the non-initiation of criminal proceedings against former President Igor Dodon.

The case is based on a video recording from June 2019, in which Dodon appears alongside Vladimir Plahotniuc and Serghei Iaralov.
