Transplant marathon at Republican Hospital of Moldova: five lives saved in 48 hours

Doctors at the Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital have conducted a true transplant marathon, successfully saving five lives in just 48 hours. This involved two liver transplants and three kidney transplants, all of which were successfully completed.

According to the Health Ministry, the liver transplants were performed by the team led by Adrian Hotineanu, head of the Second Surgery Department at the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, while the kidney transplant surgeries were carried out by teams led by Andrei Galescu and Sergiu Gaibu.

In a message posted on his page, Adrian Hotineanu emphasized the importance of this complex medical effort and the human significance of the interventions carried out in such a short period.

‘’In recent days, I experienced, alongside my colleagues, one of those periods that define the true essence of medicine. In just 48 hours, five patients received the chance of a new life through transplant: two liver transplants and three kidney transplants, all successfully performed.’’

The doctor also highlighted the collective effort behind each surgery and the inter-institutional collaboration.

‘’An impressive collective effort lies behind each intervention, extending beyond the operating room. I particularly appreciate the collaboration with the medical teams involved in the procurement process.’’

According to Hotineanu, the patients are showing favorable postoperative development and are under medical supervision during the recovery phase. ‘’Transplant means responsibility, solidarity and profound respect for life,’’ concluded Hotineanu.

Doctors note that the patients' condition is stable and that they are receiving continuous medical care for a complete recovery.
