Orange heatwave warning in Moldova: authorities announce temporary restrictions for heavy trucks on national roads

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) announces the imposition of temporary traffic restrictions for heavy transport vehicles, between 10:00 and 20:00 all over Moldova, in the context of extreme temperatures forecast for July 6–8.

The measure comes in response to the meteorological orange heatwave warning and aims to protect the road infrastructure from severe thermal effects.

“Paved roads, especially those with heavy traffic, may suffer deformations and loss of stability under the weight of vehicles over 12 tons, in high-temperature conditions. Exceptions to the restrictions apply to passenger transport, perishable goods, live animals, medical equipment, fuel, as well as other cases provided by the order issued on June 6, 2025,” said MIDR.

Compliance with these measures will be monitored by the National Road Transport Agency and the General Police Inspectorate, which will intervene in cases of non-compliance by applying sanctions provided by law.

The National Roads Administration informed that it would continuously patrol national roads, appropriately signal affected sectors and intervene promptly in case of road surface damage, including the lifting of slabs or deformation of the asphalt layer.

For emergency reports or information about the conditions of roads and current restrictions, citizens may contact the National Roads Administration's Operations Service, available 24/7: Phone: (+373) 78 337 744 / (+373) 60 477 117, Viber / WhatsApp; E-mail: serviciul@asd.md

Authorities urge carriers to comply with the imposed measures, thereby contributing to the protection of roads’ infrastructure and traffic safety on the heatwave period.
