Over 70 candidates for 39 vacant judge positions in Moldova; ten new prosecutors proposed after graduating from National Justice institute
The judicial system and the prosecution service record an increased interest in filling vacant positions, in the context of reforms carried out on the path toward European integration. For the 39 vacant judge positions, 73 applications have been submitted, and ten graduates of the National Institute of Justice (INJ) have been proposed for vacant prosecutor positions after passing the competitions.
Data to this effect was presented at a meeting on monitoring the progress achieved under Chapter 23, Judiciary and fundamental rights, one of the key areas Moldova’s negotiations to join the European Union.
The number of candidates registered for judge positions is an important indicator for replenishing the system with new professionals and ensuring the efficient work of the courts. In parallel, the promotion of new generations of prosecutors trained at the National Institute of Justice contributes to strengthening the capacity of justice sector institutions.
On the same period, the Superior Council of Magistracy approved standards regarding the necessary number of judges for each court, a measure aimed at optimizing the allocation of human resources and reducing imbalances in the system.
The relevant authorities have also created a joint working group to identify solutions that would enhance the attractiveness of careers as judges and prosecutors and help retain professionals in the justice system.
The reform of the judicial system, the guarantee of judicial independence and the strengthening of law enforcement institutions represent essential commitments undertaken by Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union.
