Moldova, China boost dialogue between business communities; two sides' officials discuss economic partnerships in Beijing

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today had a meeting in Beijing with Ren Hongbin, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). The officials discussed the development of relations between the business communities of the two states, with a focus on strengthening direct contacts between producers, importers, distributors and business associations.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi highlighted Moldova’s interest in expanding economic partnerships in such areas as the agri-food industry, logistics, light industry, IT services and e-commerce.

“In Beijing, I had a meeting with Ren Hongbin. We discussed cooperation between the business communities of Moldova and China. We also addressed the participation of companies from both countries in economic forums and international exhibitions,” noted Mihai Popsoi.

The official also emphasized the role of institutional cooperation between CCPIT and the relevant economic institutions of Moldova, including the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in promoting trade and investment opportunities and in facilitating the implementation of concrete projects.

For his part, CCPIT President Ren Hongbin underlined that he would encourage the Chinese business community and Chinese companies that are members of the Council to undertake informative visits to Moldova, in order to identify business and investment opportunities of common interest.

At the end of the meeting, the sides stressed the importance of maintaining active contacts between the institutions and business communities of the two states.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi is paying an official visit to the People’s Republic of China on May 21-25, this year, at an invitation by his counterpart Wang Yi. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral dialogue and promote economic, trade, investment, cultural, educational and tourism cooperation between the two states.

The last visit of a Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova to the People’s Republic of China took place in 2018.

The diplomatic relations between the two states were established on January 30, 1992. The countries have signed 61 agreements in such areas as trade and economic cooperation, mutual protection of investments, avoidance of double taxation on income and capital, air services, consular affairs, youth, education, tourism, health and culture.
