Moldovan energy minister calls for compliance with deadlines for completing works needed to start energizing Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has requested the timely completion of all works necessary to initiate the process of energizing of the Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line. The minister expressed his position during his today’s visit to the Chisinau Electric Substation.

Dorin Junghietu went to the construction site, in order to assess the stage of works and the contractor’s compliance with the deadlines assumed under the project for the construction of the 400 kV Vulcanesti–Chisinau Overhead Power Line. The visit also focused on the preparations required for completing the works and commissioning the energy infrastructure.

At the same time, Dorin Junghietu warned that contractual penalties would be applied in the event of failure to meet the established deadlines.

Project managers reported that, at the Chișinău Electric Substation, the assembly of the container and the connection of internal networks were in the final stage, while in parallel, work continues on arranging channels and underground crossings for cables.

At the same time, those in charge of executing the works at the other end of the line, at the Vulcanesti Electric Substation, said that, in recent days, they had been carrying out mechanical checks of primary equipment actuators and installing teleprotection cabinets.

The Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line is approximately 157 km long and connects the 400 kV Vulcanesti Electric Substation with the 330 kV Chisinau Electric Substation. The line’s transmission capacity is up to 630 MVA, which will allow coverage of more than 50 per cent of Moldova’s consumption during peak periods. The Vulcanesti–Chisinau Overhead Power Line is part of the Power System Development Project of Moldova, financed by the World Bank Group. The total value of the project is approximately 61 million euros, of which about 27 million euros is allocated for the construction of the power line.

The project is implemented by Moldova’s government through the Energy Ministry and UCIPE – the Energy Projects Implementation Unit, and the direct beneficiary is the state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica.
