Moldovan parliament expands foreign relations: friendship groups with United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia created

Moldova’s parliament has ruled to create two new parliamentary friendship groups with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, at a today’s plenary meeting. The decision was taken by amending the parliament’s decision on the organization of these structures.

The friendship group with the United Arab Emirates is made up of 43 members and will be headed by MP Renato Usatii. At the same time, the friendship group with Saudi Arabia brings together 42 members and is chaired by MP Ersilia Qatrawi.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers approved the updated composition of more existing friendship groups, following requests submitted by the parliamentary factions.

Presently, in the 12th legislative period, the parliament has 56 parliamentary friendship groups with other states. According to procedure, their composition is established based on the options expressed by MPs, and the chairs are designated in accordance with the principle of proportional representation of political parties.

The parliamentary friendship groups are regarded as an important tool for strengthening bilateral relations, developing interparliamentary dialogue and expanding cooperation in areas of common interest.
